Pest of the Month: Carpenter Ants

If you have ever been startled by a giant black ant in your home, its not a radioactive mutant ant,  its a carpenter ant.  These big black beauties may be harmless to you but not to your home, causing home owners hundreds of dollars in damage every year. Let’s take a moment to get acquainted with these miners of the wood world.

1. Carpenter Ants don’t actually eat wood. Their primary food is other insects.

2. They will even travel 1,000 feet from their colony to search for food.

3. Soft moist wood is what they prefer when looking for a place to call home.

4. Carpenter ants come in more than one color ranging from red to black.

5. The Carpenter Ant Queen is the oldest living insect. Living up to 25 years.
