Pill Bugs: What you need to know

Identifying Characteristics

Pillbugs measure ¼-½ inch in size and are either light or dark gray in color
When disturbed, they roll up into a tight ball allowing their armor to protect their soft underbelly and many legs
Also known as “Potato Bugs” or “Roly-Polies”

Active Season

Pillbugs are most common during Spring and Summer
They are mostly found in gardens and mulchy areas
An indoor infestation generally means a large outdoor population

Interesting Facts

Pillbugs are actually a crustacean; more related to a crayfish than to insects

Cause for Concern

Pillbugs will not cause damage, but can infest interior potted plants
