Sweet Ants: What you need to know

Identifying Characteristics

Adult Pavement Ants can measure ⅛-⅙ inches in length (smaller than a grain of rice)
Typically brown with black/grey abdomens and semi-transparent legs
Most often found feeding on sugary or greasy foods
Will likely be seen coming in and out of cracks in pavement, tile, or any indoor/outdoor flooring.

Active Season

In the proper environment, Pavement Ants may be active year round (specifically indoors)
Queen ants will continue producing eggs throughout the year

Interesting Facts

When nesting, they may battle another colony if it encroaches on their territory
Pavement Ants receive their name because they are often found in between cracks in the pavement or cement
During warmer seasons they will clear out the sand in the cracks of the pavement to ventilate their nests

Cause for Concern

A major infestation can weaken slabs and lead to cracks and settling
Mainly a nuisance to people when found foraging for food in kitchens and at picnics

If they are inside, please be prepared to be out of your home for 1 hour from the time we begin our treatment
The treatment can take up to 3 weeks to eliminate the infestation, as treatment needs to be brought by ants to colony underneath foundation of home
