    Identifying Characteristics

    • Phorid Flies can be as large as ¼ inches in length
    • They are generally a pale brown color
    • They largely resemble fruit flies but are more humpbacked

    Active Season

    • Phorid Flies are most active in warmer months
    • They can be found year round indoors
    • Their average lifespan is 1-2 weeks

    Interesting Facts

    • Phorid Flies will sometimes run rather than fly when escaping perceived danger
    • One species of Phorid Fly is known to be the worlds smallest fly (.4 mm)

    Cause for Concern

    • Phorid Flies frequent areas with poor sanitation and may contaminate food
    • They are generally seen as a nuisance especially in kitchen/eating areas

    • For interior treatments, all people and pets need to be out of the home for 1 hour. The treatment can take 2-3 weeks to take care of infestation
    • Sanitation Tips: The large battle when dealing with any type of fly is removing their habitat. Residual treatments will not prevent reproduction but removing preferred conditions will. They are often found around trash cans, dumpsters, rotting corpses, and general filth. Until these issues are dealt with, the fly infestation can not be controlled.
