Asian Lady Beetles: What you need to know

Identifying Characteristics

Asian Lady Beetles are a light brown or orange color with black or brown spots
They are most often found near window sills when found inside
Asian Lady Beetles are orange vs. the candy apple red color of Ladybugs, and generally have many more black spots than a Ladybug

Active Season

Asian Lady Beetles are most active during the Spring and Summer
They will also be found indoors beginning in the Fall for overwintering

Interesting Facts

Asian Lady Beetles are also known as Ladybird beetles
They were introduced into North America in order to control the aphid population

Cause for Concern

Asian Lady Beetles have been known to bite humans at times
They can be found in large swarms even during the winter months

If an interior treatment does need to be applied, a light spray around windows and doors may leave a very light film which should be left on for as long as possible to prevent entry. People and pets will need to remain out of the house for 1 hour
