Centipedes: What you need to know

Identifying Characteristics

  • Adult Centipedes measure between 1-6 inches in length
  • They are light to dark brown in color with many legs making them appear hairy

Active Season

  • Centipedes are active year-round when living indoors but most active during Spring and Summer

Interesting Facts

  • Large Centipedes may bite if provoked, however, not with mouthparts but fang-like front legs
  • They feed on other insects including spiders

  • When Centipedes are found indoors it is often a sign that there is a moisture problem in the area ¬†
  • They do not damage any household items or structure but are mostly regarded as unsightly and intimidating
